Here comes the sun…

Remembering George Harrison – a beloved friend-who-I-never-met – who used to be my ten-miles-away neighbour (similarly of no contact) in Berkshire.

At last, a few days to revel in. It is 11C here in South Devon, jonquils are showing off, daffodils are braving it, and magnolia trees are waking and sprouting glorious pinky-white candles. I can see the sea from my living room and, although it’s only a chink, I feel blessed every day that I can. Teignmouth is in a bright, pale mist with sun glinting on a few windows. And there it is, the poor old broken pier, battered by Storm Ingrid.

This morning I am logged in to The Academy of Wide-Hearted Living where I’m joining a co-working session, hence actually getting off my bum – or sitting on it – and making a long overdue update. The Academy is the brainchild of Melissa Noble, and the organisation strapline is ‘Discover your creative toolkit for better living’, which is why I am involved. Through it, I’ve been meeting people of many creative, entrepreneurial, academic and other backgrounds who, like me, are grateful for a friendly, shared experience and, simply, new connections Do take a stroll along to the website to discover more.

The new anthology of short stories, LEAVING HOME, is garnering enthusiastic reactions, but very few reviews – I’m not good at nudging my readers… but here are two paeans…

An impressive collection of stories

There are fifteen stories in total, and I would give at least twelve of them a clear five-star rating. I still enjoyed the others, but they didn’t resonate with me quite as much – which is only to be expected in a collection where the stories are so different from one another. Most nights I read a story before bed, and each time I found myself completely absorbed in what I was reading. It’s an impressive and varied collection, and one I’d happily recommend.

Short stories well worth reading.

Lovely selection of stories about love, life, philosophy and being simply human. Well worth reading.

Back to McV…

As Father Ted’s formidable housekeeper, Mrs Doyle aka Pauline McLynn, would say… ‘Ah go on, go on, go on, go on, go on…’
